Curriculum

The most widely used and accepted Christian curriculum in America is A Beka, which we use predominately in our grammar, spelling, and reading classes. A Beka readers have had remarkable success in classrooms that demand accelerated comprehension and vocabulary. Novels and novelettes are introduced into the 3rd grade curriculum and by the time a student moves to the Middle School, the literature study is completely novel-based. (see classroom novels). Mathematics is taught from newly published ACSI texts, which provide better results for reasoning and problem solving. Our new and beautiful Science texts, entitled Purposeful Design, provide a solid biblical foundation for the students' view of their world. MS and HS math uses the 2011 Prentice-Hall textbooks which continually integrate technology and include additional links for at home use. 

The goal of an education is to put “tools of learning” into students’ hands. Because children travel through different stages of development, the curriculum also needs to be divided into stages to accommodate their abilities to grasp and learn material. Above all, this learning will be done in the context of a Biblical framework.

 

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (knowledge stage)

Questions of who, what, when, and where are the focus. This stage is designed to build a core body of information.

 

MIDDLE SCHOOL (understanding stage)

Questions of how and why are addressed. This stage brings the information data into its proper ordered relationship through use of logic and independent thought.

 

HIGH SCHOOL (wisdom stage)

Students are encouraged to apply knowledge and understanding to the problems they will need to overcome as Christian leaders and good citizens. We want them to employ faith, courage and persuasion as they seek to answer the rhetorical question “why not?” Summer reading is required for all students.

 

 

Our Bible Instruction

FCA is not affiliated with any specific church or denomination but holds to the historic Christian beliefs stated in the Apostle’s Creed. We allow the Bible to speak for itself on all topics so that our students will develop a Christian worldview…one which affirms that ‘all truth is God’s Truth” and that God’s truth abides in the person of our Savior Jesus Christ. The curriculum used is published by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) which is the accrediting agency for thousands of Christian schools
